Pot Limit Omaha

The poker online game that have gained a lot of popularity lately is Pot Limit Omaha. The difference to Texas Holdem is that all players get 4 hole cards instead of 2, and MUST use 2 of them to form their hand.

What makes Omaha high an attractive game is that the pots tend to grow very large, compared to Holdem at the same blind size. This is because the size of the pot will be increasing exponentially with successive rounds of betting. A tension is built up as the flop has so many more opportunities than in Holdem.

If you are new to the game and want to start play online poker, Omaha PL is probably the game you should learn if you want to make money. Texas Holdem has been popular for 10 yeasr now, while PL Omaha just lately has become very popular. Many Omaha players are originally Texas Holdem players and tend to play Omaha the same way, and by learning Omaha instead of Texas Holdem, you could get an edge even on experienced players after a while.

Many consider PL Omaha as really complicated because of the number of potential outs. The game requires much more attention than Texas Holdem since so many possibilities are possible.

For a player who knows Texas Holdem it is very easy to learn Omaha (but not easy to master of course). The most common mistake is to play the game the same as Holdem, and overtrusting the hand value. The goo starting hands in PL Omaha are very similar to Texas Holdem. Of course, there is no dominating hands like AA because of the 4 cards, but AAxx is not a bad hand, especially not if the number of opponents can be limited. Cards like As-Ad-Ks-Kd is what you would love to see in your hand. Other winning Omaha poker starting hands are A-A-Q-Q, A-A-J-J, A-A-T-T, A-A-9-9, and any pair with an ace pair. Actually double suiting of cards having A-K combinations in the same suit constitute winning Omaha poker starting hands. Other cards having potential are cards in pairs, connectors, flushes and even suited connectors.

In Omaha High, it's very common that hands like trips, straights, flushes and full houses occur. It is therefore necessary to keep track of what the nuts are. Always draw for the nuts, and don't put all your money in just because you have a J high flush draw. It is very likely someone else has the A and another card of the same value.

Good luck at the tables!
